1. Information We Collect

The Wabisa app collects minimal data to provide you with a personalized learning experience. This includes:

Learning progress and assessment scores (stored locally on your device — see Section 3)
App usage analytics (anonymous, aggregated data only)
Audio recordings during speaking practice (processed in real-time and not retained)

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used exclusively to improve your learning experience:

Personalising lesson recommendations based on your progress
Providing pronunciation feedback during speaking exercises
Improving the app through anonymous usage statistics

3. Data Storage

All learning progress, scores, and app preferences are stored locally on your device using SQLite. We do not maintain user accounts and do not store personal learning data on our servers or any external servers. AI conversation features transmit your input to third-party API services during an active session only — no conversation history is retained by us after the session ends.

Deletion: Because all data lives on your device, you can permanently delete all app data at any time by uninstalling the app. No data removal request to us is required.

4. Third-Party Services

The app and this website may use the following third-party services:

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — used for audio generation in lessons. See Google's Privacy Policy.
AI language model APIs — used for AI conversation practice. Audio input is transmitted to the API during an active session and is not stored by us.
forms.fyi — used to process messages submitted via our Contact page. When you submit the contact form, your name, email address, and message are sent to forms.fyi on our behalf. forms.fyi acts as a data processor under our instruction. See forms.fyi's Privacy Policy.
Cloudflare Turnstile — used on our Contact page to prevent spam. Cloudflare may collect technical signals (e.g. browser characteristics) to verify you are human. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics — used to understand how visitors use this website (page views, general navigation patterns). Data is collected in an anonymised, aggregated form. See Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Your Rights

Because Wabisa does not store personal data on our servers, most data rights (access, correction, portability) apply directly to the data held on your own device. You are in full control:

Right to delete: Uninstall the app at any time. All locally stored data — progress, scores, preferences — is permanently removed with the app.
Contact form data: If you have submitted a message via our contact form and wish for it to be deleted from our records, please email hello@wabisa.jp and we will action your request promptly.
Analytics opt-out: You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

6. Children's Privacy

Wabisa is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. All learning data remains on the child's device and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app or website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
